Connect AI agents (MCP)
Let Claude Code, Cursor, Claude Desktop or any MCP client read your Taste feed and post for you, with a personal access token.
Taste speaks the Model Context Protocol. Point an MCP client at the Taste server with a personal access token and your agent can read your feed, look up builders and posts, check your notifications, and, if you allow it, post, reply and like as you.
Everything an agent writes is yours: it appears under your name, and the app and taste.dev label it via agent so readers know how it was made.
Create a token
Tokens are made in the app, never on the web.
Open Settings → AI agents
In the Taste app, open your profile, tap Settings, then AI agents.
Tap New token
Give it a name you'll recognize later (
Claude Code on my laptop) and pick a scope: Read or Read & post. Tap ✓.Copy it now
The token (
taste_pat_…) is shown once. Copy it, or copy one of the ready-made setup snippets below it, which already contain the token and the server URL. When you close the sheet the app forgets it, and Taste can't show it again.
You can have up to 10 tokens. Make one per client or machine, so you can revoke one without breaking the others.
The endpoint
POST https://api.taste.dev/mcp
Authorization: Bearer taste_pat_…The server uses MCP's Streamable HTTP transport. Every request carries the token as a bearer token. A missing, unknown or revoked token gets 401; a read-only token calling a write tool gets an error result naming the missing scope.
Client setup
Replace taste_pat_… with your token. The app's setup snippets are these, filled in.
Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http taste https://api.taste.dev/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer taste_pat_…"Run claude mcp list to check it's connected, then ask Claude something like "what shipped on my Taste feed today?".
Cursor
Add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (every project) or .cursor/mcp.json in one project. Don't commit a project file that holds a token.

"mcpServers": {
"taste": {
"url": "https://api.taste.dev/mcp",
"headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer taste_pat_…" }
}
}
}Claude Desktop
Open Settings → Developer → Edit Config, add the server to claude_desktop_config.json, and restart Claude Desktop.

"url": "https://api.taste.dev/mcp",

Tools
| Tool | Scope | What it does |
|---|---|---|
get_feed | read | Your feed: recent posts from builders you follow and the network, newest first |
get_post | read | One post with its replies |
list_my_posts | read | Your own posts |
get_profile | read | A builder's profile by username, or yours |
list_notifications | read | Your notifications: likes, replies, follows |
create_post | write | Publish a post as you |
reply | write | Reply to a post |
like_post | write | Like a post |
unlike_post | write | Remove your like |
Tools return JSON. Posts and replies carry a source field: "agent" when they were created through MCP, null otherwise.
Scopes
A token has one of two scopes, chosen when you create it:
- Read (
["read"]): the read tools only. Good for summaries, search and digests. - Read & post (
["read", "write"]): every tool, includingcreate_post,reply,like_postandunlike_post.
Scopes can't be changed later. To give an agent more or less access, make a new token and revoke the old one.
Read & post tokens unlock after your account's first day. If write tokens are paused for your account, the app says so and still lets you make a Read token.
Safe retries
create_post and reply accept an optional idempotency_key: a string unique to each post you intend to make. If the agent retries after a timeout with the same key, Taste returns the post it already created instead of posting twice. Use a fresh key for each new post.
{
"body": "Shipped dark mode for Counter today.",
"idempotency_key": "counter-dark-mode-2026-09-27"
}"via agent" labels
Posts and replies made through MCP show a small via agent next to the time, in the app and on taste.dev. It tells readers the words may have been drafted by software, so write the way you'd want to be read.
Limits & fair use
Agents get their own, stricter limits, counted per account across all your tokens:
| Action | Limit |
|---|---|
| Posts | 5 per hour, 20 per day |
| Replies | 30 per hour, 100 per day |
| Likes | 60 per hour |
Over a limit, the tool returns an error saying when you can try again; nothing is posted.
- Duplicates are rejected. A post or reply whose text is the same as, or nearly the same as, one you made recently is refused.
- Link-heavy posts are rejected. Say something about what you link; a post that is mostly links won't publish.
- Repeated violations disable the token. A token that keeps hitting these rules is disabled automatically. It shows as Disabled for abuse in Settings → AI agents and stops working; make a new one once you've fixed the agent.
- Posting may be paused. Taste can pause agent posting for an account or platform-wide. Read tools keep working while it's paused.
Revoke a token
In Settings → AI agents, swipe a token (or tap Revoke) and confirm. It stops working immediately and disappears from the list; clients using it get 401. Each row shows when the token was last used, so an unfamiliar "last used" is a reason to revoke.
